B) Genre:
All Time Low is a pop punk music group from Baltimore. They release heavy pop punk/ rock music. Each of their albums previous to Future Hearts have kept the rock and roll/ pop punk feel which their fans like to hear. They have fast guitar and drum solos in their songs along with quick based lyrics.
Genre convention examples:
C) Form:
The album is released on a physical CD that the fans can buy and it is also available to download off iTunes and stream on Spotify
D) Style:
The way the album is presented is with a colour palette of 3 main colours; blue, white and black.
The band kept the colours simple and plain to make their name and album name clear to the audience. The blue circle makes it clear that their band logo is planted in the middle ( a heart with an eye in it ) doing this it makes the art work clear and simple to see. The band didn't want the album cover to be too dramatic as they wanted people to focus more on the music and not the cover of the album, however they said that it is still important cause it is the first thing their fans will see.
Their style of music which is pop punk will be familiar to the fans as it is the style that the band have done on their previous records and what they enjoy writing/playing live
E) Content:
The content of the album is 13 pop punk driven songs
F) Meaning:
All Time Low have said before that the meaning behind their music videos to the lyrics is very important to them as it gives them a connection to the fans. This is seen the most in the song " Missing You" off this album. The music video for this song is kept simple and plain with Alex just playing guitar around London, and other clips of the band touring and exploring London. However the biggest part of this video is the meaning of the lyrics to the fans. The band video called fans from around the world just talking to them about how the band has helped them shape them, save them or keep them happy in general. The fans are very important to ATL and they like to keep in touch with them no matter how big they get. This music video has had one of the biggest reaction from this album that the band has had and it has such a big meaning behind the lyrics for the fans and the music video shows how much they care for their fans.
Another song off this album " Kids in the dark" has another music video with a big meaning. The clips in this video show ATL in a small room with their instruments playing the song. But it goes on t show a girl ( representing a fan ) who is going through a rough time and has the chance to escape for a little bit ( representing a concert ) showing her, she can let go and be her for the night and be happy. Some of the strongest lyrics in this song are: " They left us alone, the kids in the dark, to burn out forever or light up a spark. We come together, state of the art. We'll never surrender" These lyrics create a story and meaning for the fans.
G) Pre - Production:
The band use a different producer for each album and for the Future Hearts album they choose John Feldman as they have always wanted to work with him. Walking into the production Alex had written around 10 songs and wanted to use some of them on the final album. Before beginning work on future hearts they were looking for a producer and went through a few before deciding that working with John Feldmann's who is based in LA, they thought he would be the right move to create the best album they could.
Production:
They recorded and wrote in John Fedmann's studio for a few months. They went into the studio with about 13 songs already and wrote another 20 whilst there. While working on the album, the band had a big white board with names of songs they wanted to have on the final album. They had a system that if they liked a song they would write it on the board in one of the 13 spaces and if they changed their minds about a song they would switch songs around. Alex would be writing songs while in production as well so they would be constantly changing songs. After having names of songs on the board they would place a drawing next to a song they 100% wanted on the album. But even throughout production of this they would be switching the songs all the time until they were sure.
Post - Production:
After finishing the album, the band went on tour and started releasing singles. They had a a release date for the album. They finished touring before the album was even released. They toured the world 2 times round and the album hadn't even been released. After the album had been released the band started to tour again with the new album.
Conclusion:
The purpose of my product is to entertain the fans of the band and connect with them. I can tell by the intentions that it is trying to connect with the audience due to the deep, meaningful lyrics that the fans can relate to and feel less alone with the meaning of the songs. The genre and specific intentions can also be seen within the tour and how connected the fans will be during the show, and being able to be with the band, and having the opportunity to have moments with the band and leader singer.

Sound
(Diegetic / Non Diegetic)
|
· The diegetic sounds would be the classic sounds of the lightsabers. It is a sound that the audience is familiar with and will recognise.
· In the trailer there are voice overs from characters giving the trailer more dramatic and placed in important parts, showing that maybe a character is in danger or giving advice to another character. For example Luke says “ This is not going to go the way you think “ it suggests that something big is going to happen within the film and it gives the trailer an intense sound
· The non-diegetic sound would be the music playing through the trailer, it gives it more tension and dramatic feeling.
|
Editing
|
· In a trailer they edit it to only show intense, dramatic parts of the film to draw in the audience, without showing off any major plot spoilers. Throughout the trailer you can see parts of armies and the light and dark side prepare to fight. It also shows Luke being scared to train Rey to fight. All these little bits connect to create a sense of what could happen in the film but not well enough to spoil it for the audience this way it grabs your attention.
|
Cinematography
|
· Through the whole trailer it shows shots of both Rey and Kylo finding out who they are and what their powers are. This is shown especially with Rey, as she says “Something has always been inside of me… and now its awake and I need someone to show my part in all of this” and it shows shots of Rey being trained by Luke and him looking up at her.
· There are also shots showing Kylo looking up to the Supreme Leader and following his demands but the trailer also shows close ups of him being confused and losing what he believes in and wanting to help Rey.
|
Mise en scene & lighting
|
· When the force connects Rey and Kylo, there is tension between them and this is obvious from the way they have been positioned facing each other. The simple lighting of the fire also give the scene a calm yet tense feel making the audience drawn into what the characters are saying to each other. They are looking at each other and Rey is asking for help which will confuse the audience as they are meant to be on opposite teams, this will make the audience question things and want to see the film to get answers.
|
Effects (Visual/Special)
|
· One of the major effects in the film is the battles explosions, and when weapons collide creating sparks and small explosions they would have exaggerated them production to make them more interesting for the scene.
· Another major effect would be the lightsabers and the beams, it is something that the audience is familiar with.

Sound
(Diegetic / Non Diegetic)
|
· A key aspect of the game would be the soundtrack. This is because the music being played will create an atmosphere and mood. The music in the clip is shown to go from intense, action to sad, down beat tone, which implies that the game can be upsetting in parts and foretelling that something major could happen. This kind of sound would be non diegetic
· In this game there is a lot of fighting, so explosions and gun shots can be heard. There is also a radio broadcast being played over the action which would have been major influence on people in WW2 as it would have been the only way they would know what’s happening.
|
Editing
|
· Although the editing is simple and clear, it gives a brief outline of what is to be expected of the game in a short showing. They do this by making the transition simple and smooth with little effect.
|
Cinematography
|
· The camera angle focuses a lot of the main character suggesting to the audience that this is who they play as through the game. They do this by making the camera shots directly at him. In the clip it also shows how he develops from a normal person to a soldier giving the player a rough idea of who he is as a character.
· The camera angles also help create drama and tension such as when soldiers is pulled into a trench.
|
Mise en scene & lighting
|
· In the game there is a lot of explosions and gun shots
· Soldiers marching
· Planes flying
· Jeeps/ cars
· Bombs
· Talking
|
Effects (Visual/Special)
|
· Although the game is animated the creators have made the characters and scenery look very realistic. They would have done some research on what it would have looked like so they could get it right.
